The time for defrosting and getting back on our bikes and joining the road in search of new adventures and great motorcycle events is finally upon us. This quickly approaching season is greeted with various tasks that go hand in hand with a fun and successful riding season. Some of these tasks include preparing your bike, trying new products, planning scenic rides and attending boisterous events. The North American Motorcycle Alliance is dedicated to meet these needs in one place for convenience and functionality.
There are numerous measures that can be taken to maximize your motorcycles lifespan. A few things that may need special attention after extended storage are brakes, oil, fuel and the battery. Brake fluids have spent the winter soaking up extra water making this a perfect time to install fresh brake fluid. If your oil was changed just before storage you are ready to go but if it wasn’t it will definitely need to be changed. The old oil filter will need replacement as well. Low fuel levels can cause the tank to rust over the extended storage time. The old fuel should be emptied and the inside of the tank inspected for rust before replacing the fuel. If no trickle charge or like device was used to give the battery a constant slow charge over the storage time then fluids need to be checked and the battery needs to be given a slow charge with a standard battery charger before use.
As the new spring season approaches there are always new products coming available to help provide the best quality ride possible. Kleen King, exhaust pipe and chrome cleaner, is great for keeping your chrome looking like it just rolled off the showroom floor. Green Light Trigger is an extremely useful tool to have while riding; it is used to trigger the inductive loop sensored lights to move into the next cycle. If you have ever been forced to wait at a long traffic light; you know what we mean. Marlin Corporation Handle Bar Watch is very handy and easy to read, even in the bright sun light, it also has a convenient glow in the dark second hand.
There are so many roads to travel while enjoying the spring riding season it is hard to pick just a few. Tail of the Dragon, located in Deals Gap, NC, sports 318 turns and 11 miles of serious road. It’s a very popular ride for motorcycle and sports car enthusiast alike. Cherohala Skyline is a beautifully scenic road, quickly becoming a household name, with its 60 miles of spectacular mountain highway stretching from Robbinsonville, NC to Tellico Plains Tennessee. The Devil’s Triangle, north of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, contains some of the most unusual and twisting roads in eastern Tennessee. This is not a place for a beginning rider to take lightly. NC Touring is also another great company that specializes in making beginners comfortable by creating an ideal trip with no worries from the rider.
Daytona’s 70th Annual Bike week is a huge event that most do not want to miss during the spring season. This is one of Florida’s biggest motorcycle events. Starting March 4th and lasting until March 13th. This event features motorcycle racing, concerts, riding, parties and so much more. Myrtle Beach also offers up its own bike week. This bike week has had a tumultuous relationship between bikers and the city itself over the years but has kept its following. Myrtle Beach Bike Week is still standing strong in 2011 holding the title for “The Carolina’s Largest Motorcycle Event.” It will be held May 13th through May 22nd. The Sturgis Rally is a weeklong rally offering numerous scenic rides and a brotherhood of bikers; some who have been bonded together for more than 60 years. This is an event dedicated to die hard bikers as there are no shortcuts from America’s highways into Sturgis, South Dakota. This 71st annual event takes place August 8th through August 14th.
This 2011 motorcycle riding season promises to keep you entertained and out riding as much as possible. There are so many things to do and see it’s hard not to miss a few. The North American Motorcycle Alliance will do everything we can to ensure you are in the know for future events and product releases. Happy touring.
