Product Overview
The Green Light Trigger is a device that when installed on your motorcycle will allow inductive loop (sometimes referred to as magnetic sensor) controlled stoplight or traffic signals to advance to the next cycle. This is perpetuated by the sensors being tripped because of the Green Light Trigger. If this product works as the manufacture claims, this device is useful to the motorcyclist that owns a bike that ordinarily does not have the metal mass otherwise needed to trip the inductive loop sensor.
Test Scenario
This product only claims to work on the traffic signals that are controlled by inductive loop, which I am told by the local DOT that Inductive loop is by far the most common type of traffic signal. The other thing that I had to keep reminding myself is that this device is designed to help my motorcycle be detected by the traffic light controller through the inductive loop. This device is not intended nor does it claim to decrease the amount of time the light runs through its cycles. I have heard of these devices, the ones that turn the lights green as you approach, but I have not seen where they are available to the public. These “instant green” devices are used on emergency vehicles and on some city transit buses. Also, during the test the Trigger needs to be in motion to work. Drive over the sensor traveling about 5-10 mph. The website and the instruction card indicate that this is the best way to have the greatest success using the GreenLight Trigger. The manufacture also points out “but stop safely.” I have to be honest I found traveling over the inductive loops outline in the pavement at 10 MPH is concerning. I opted to use the lower speed of 5 MPH as the rule of thumb just to be on the safe side.
I used my Suzuki Marauder for this test as I have found it has more trouble tripping the lights then my Ultra. I have also noticed (all that it may be true only in my town) that the left turn lights, the ones that make you wait for the green arrow are the biggest issue with regard to tripping the lights.
I have identified three traffic lights in my area which I know do not trip when I arrive on the Suzuki and they are all left turn lights. I originally had 4 lights in mind but after talking to the road department I was informed that one the lights is timed and does not rely on the inductive loop so that light would be of no value to the test. With regard to identifying inductive loop traffic lights the instructions that come with the device have a small graphic and a short explanation on how to identify and how to approach the inductive loop for maximum effect.
First I went to the lights without the device installed just to make sure that the traffic lights were unable to detect that my Marauder was there. I verified that when making a left turn at all three of these lights I would not get a green arrow until a larger vehicle drove up behind me. This is also something to think about with regard to venerability and safety when riding a motorcycle.
The time the traffic light took to turn was not part of the test scenario. The fact that the traffic light turned without other vehicles around was the goal of this test.
All three lights were tripped by the GreenLight Trigger – High Power without the aid of a larger vehicle. I repeated the testing several times at each of the lights just to make sure it was not a fluke. Some of the visits to the traffic signals were disqualified as actual test date because a larger vehicle showed up either in the turn lane or the lane directly next to the turn lane.
Test Conclusion
This product the GreenLight Trigger – High Power does everything thing the manufacture claims it will do.
This product works and I definitely give it a Thumbs Up.!
Product Installation
I would strongly suggest reading the manufactures FAQs found on their website at before installing and using this device. There is a lot of information on the site that is not included on the instruction card. Like the tip “Do NOT mount the Trigger in a place that gets very hot (like near the exhaust headers)”
The Trigger is easily mounted as it comes packaged with everything you need to install it on the motorcycle. The hardiest part I found during the installation was finding a place that meets all the criteria called out in the instructions for mounting it. I found that the flattest and closet place to mount the Trigger and the easiest was a poor choice as it was an electronic device needed to operate the motorcycle. After a quick call the Kauffman Marketing, Inc the manufacture of this device I was warned not to locate the Trigger that close to electronics. You’ll be happen to know that my call to the manufacture was uncomplicated I dialed the phone using the toll free number found on the instruction card. The phone was answered with in four rings and it was a living breathing person. All I had to do was explain the situation no buttons to push, no music on hold the person that answered was the same person that handled the call and gave me the information I needed to complete the installation.
I found a flat bracket that was behind the engine and in front of the rear tire. I cleaned the bracket preparing it for installation. Then pealed the backing tape from the adhesive on the back side of the Trigger and pushed into place. Using a very small plastic clamp I was (as instructed) able to clamp the Trigger into place and waited over night for it to set. The next morning it was ready to test.
Product Maintenance
The product seems to be “maintenance free”. Once you have it mounted and have made sure the mounting is secure I can think of no other requirements for the life of the product.
Product Safety Issues
-
This product is a strong magnetic field source
-
Keep device Clear of computer disks, credit cards, or any other magnetic media

Keep device clear of any medical devices that are sensitive to strong magnetic field
When received one of the first things you see on the package is that “Warning! Do not place near computer hard drives, disks, or other magnetic media”. After you open the envelope and retrieve the box from inside there is another warning on the box. This warning is vague in comparison to the one on the envelope. The warning in the box says “Warning Strong magnetic field source. Handle with care”. Then once you open the box and remove the content on the card that holds the device and also has the directions printed on it there is another warning only it is labeled precautions.
